3 Questions with Senior Client Manager Tom Randall

Threefold is hiring a Senior Client Manager on our growing North American team. The person hired for this role will be responsible for our initial consultancy engagements with retailers before evolving into leading the commercial and client output for a U.S. retail partnership while continuing to develop the team and evolve processes to ensure continued growth.

We tapped Tom Randall, a Senior Client Manager on our Co-op Media Network team, to talk about what it's like to work in his role at Threefold and SMG.

Q: What does a typical day look like for a Senior Client Manager?

A: I am incredibly fortunate to manage a team of six highly motivated individuals, my role as a people manager is to support their development and growth within the business, offering support and experience across campaigns, projects and challenges. SMG has always recognised the value of putting it's people first and I'm proud to be a key driver of their coaching, training and development - helping them to not only progress their own careers but ensure we meet the high standards and expectations that has led SMG to be the leading retail media agency in the UK.

With the fast growth and development of our UK accounts, there is always new and exciting project to be a part of which means my day-to-day often looks very different - from working on the launch of new media channels to clients, such as 1PD solutions to building relationships with senior stakeholders at our retail partners or brand clients to help us build the future vision of what retail media looks like for retailers, brands and shoppers.

Q: Can you tell us about a standout campaign you've recently worked on?

A: Coronation Street is a British staple of television having been on our screens since 1960, so when the chance arose for my team to work on a partnership between the retailer, the tv show and Heineken 0.0 we knew we had an exciting opportunity to really resonate with our shopper in a unique and disruptive way. The goal - drive sales and awareness of Heineken's 0% product. The solution - Leverage Coronation's Street's unique assets to make an instantly recognisable campaign to a UK audience driven via our network of over 2,500 convenience stores with a special activation in a store right outside of the TV studio. The campaign brought together a mix of traditional retail media channels whilst developing new ways to capture shopper's attention.

Q: What excites you about the future of the partnership?

A: When I started over 6 years ago, Retail Media wasn't sexy, we had to fight for each £ of investment against the bigger, more traditional marketing channels. Things are very different nowadays, with brand clients and retailers understanding the value of point-of-purchase media in a marketing landscape that has become convoluted and confusing. Where better to influence a sale than at the storefront itself? With the rapid expansion of digital opportunities and data, I'm proud to be part of a fast-growing company that has over 16 years of experience in the retail media space and continues to be at the forefront of its development.
