Threefold is hiring a Partnership Director/VP to lead our first full-service Retail Media Network in North America. The individual hired for this role will lead Threefold's partnership with a retailer, take charge of setting and achieving commercial targets while cultivating relationships with key stakeholders across Threefold and our retail partner.
We tapped Matt Hinton, the Partnership Director at Morrisons Media Group, to share what it's like to work for SMG and to lead a RMN partnership with one of our retail partners.
Matt has been with the SMG agency network for over six years, during which time he has worked across multiple partnerships. He joined as a Senior Client Manager and has since risen to the position of Partnership Director, managing the partnership between Threefold (SMG) and UK grocer Morrisons. Throughout his tenure, he has taken on new responsibilities, gained experience and grown his knowledge, becoming an established business leader in a rapidly developing and exciting industry.
Q: What do you enjoy most about working within the retail media industry?
A: It is constantly evolving and there is so much internal and external interest in what we are doing. There is an opportunity to influence and shape what we do, not just here at SMG, but also in the wider industry.
Q: What does a typical day look like for you?
A: The Partnership Director role is all-encompassing. From meeting clients to our retail partners and managing the team's performance and well-being. We are responsible for the commercial performance through to our Best Companies results, so no two days are the same! It is a varied and challenging role that keeps you on your toes and allows you to flex a diverse range of skills.
Q: What excites you the most about the role?
A: Seeing others grow. We have a culture of giving opportunities to those that earn it and seeing colleagues develop and move forward in their careers is a real positive. The role demands a lot, so we need brilliant people around us and working with us. A massive part of the role is developing talent and identifying who can continue to rise within the business.
Q: What’s the best thing about working at SMG?
A: The people at ALL levels. Our board is made up of mainly those that started in the business at a more junior level and have grown and developed. They are an inspiring bunch and relatable. We also take recruitment really seriously and have a robust process that means we bring in ambitious and driven people from the ground up. Surrounding yourself with these people day-in and day-out is the best part of the role.
Q: What would you like someone interested in applying for the Partnership Director role to know?
A: It is a big role; it is a lot of responsibility, and it's challenging. But the rewards are massive. If you work hard, develop the team around you and invest in relationships (retailer and internally) then there is much scope for you to develop your career and learning.
